CNR - Istituto di Cristallografia

The Institute of Crystallography (IC) is a research Institute of the National Research Council (Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche, CNR) articulated in four branches located at Bari, Montelibretti, Catania and Trieste.

Its main research activities are focused on advanced crystallographic methodology and computing, structural chemistry and biology, study of materials of technological interest such as nano-crystals and quasi-crystals, synthesis and development of molecules of therapeutic interest, development of biosensors for health and agri-food.

Its facilities in Trieste include a laboratory for the expression and purification of biological macromolecules, a biophysical laboratory aimed at the accurate and quantitative study of macromolecule-ligand interactions and, in partnership with Elettra Synchrotron, the XRD1 diffraction beamline for applications in crystallography of biological macromolecules, in structural chemistry and in material science.

The activity of the Trieste laboratory is aimed at both basic and applied science with a special interest in the development of novel therapeutic drugs.

Operational Units

Scientific and Technical Nodes Across Partner Institutions

Each PRP@CERIC partner operates multiple Operational Units, which serve as the active nodes of the infrastructure. These units provide scientific and technical services, including high-containment biosafety labs, spectroscopy suites, omics pipelines, and computational analysis tools.
